Phone Robbery in Nice Involving $25,000 Account Code, 15 Fraud Reports in Béziers
On the night of September 6 in Nice, France, a phone containing access codes to a virtual asset account was stolen while the owner was held captive. Two masked men broke into a home, tied up a mother and son, and stole their wallet, passports, and two mobile phones. One of the stolen phones contained access codes for a virtual asset account worth approximately $25,000. The Nice prosecutor's office is investigating the case for armed robbery and illegal detention. In Béziers, around 15 reports have been filed against a man in his 30s for committing embezzlement or fraud under the guise of virtual asset investment. Some victims claim to have lost up to €17,000, stating that the man approached them promising returns if they entrusted him with their investment funds. The man denies the allegations, claiming that some of the funds were used for sports betting and that he is currently unable to repay the money. Both cases share a common issue regarding access information to virtual asset accounts and funds under the pretext of investment. The decision on whether to prosecute in both cases and the possibility of recovering the lost funds will be determined in future investigative procedures.
