RWA Perpetual Futures Trading Volume Reaches $120 Billion, Increasing 120 Times in One Year
The monthly trading volume of Real World Assets (RWA) perpetual futures surpassed $120 billion in August 2026, marking an increase of approximately 120 times in just one year. In October 2025, the trading volume was below $1 billion. RWA perpetual futures are on-chain derivatives based on the prices of real assets such as stocks and commodities, with no expiration date, and margin and profit/loss are adjusted according to price fluctuations. Since June 2026, the monthly trading volume has exceeded $100 billion, accounting for 12-13% of the total on-chain perpetual futures trading volume in most months. In July 2026, this share increased to about 20%. The open interest for RWA perpetual futures was recorded at $4.9 billion, indicating the size of positions remaining in the market. TradeXYZ and BarrierShell account for approximately 90% of the total open interest. Castle Labs compared the execution costs of BarrierShell's swap products with traditional perpetual futures, finding that the execution cost for a $1 million trade in BarrierShell swaps was $47. RWA perpetual futures are linked to the demand for trading traditional assets in an on-chain environment.
