A Wave of Stablecoin Acquisitions: Mastercard Acquires Visa's Partner

PANews Overview: Stripe, Circle, and Mastercard collectively invested approximately $3.3 billion to acquire three stablecoin infrastructure companies: Bridge, BVNK, and Tazapay. The focus of these acquisitions is not on on-chain technology but rather on licenses, banking partnerships, and local payment channels, which are difficult to quickly establish through software for off-chain withdrawal and settlement capabilities.

The original on-chain transaction volume of stablecoins is massive, but the actual payment scale accounts for only about 1%, with B2B payments experiencing a rapid growth of 733%. Independent infrastructure targets are continuously being acquired by giants, forcing Visa to seek new partners. The stablecoin market is highly concentrated around Tether and Circle, and acquisition returns depend on payment scale, per-transaction revenue, and customer conversion effectiveness.
