The Ministry of Science and ICT of South Korea announced plans to launch a cutting-edge artificial intelligence model research and development project in March 2027, with an estimated cost of 4.7 trillion won (approximately $3.5 billion), aimed at enhancing competitiveness in the field of advanced artificial intelligence. The ministry stated that the project will select a leading developer through public bidding after the National Assembly approves the 2027 budget in December, with the winning bidder potentially announced as early as February. The project will combine national equity investment with private funding, focusing on computing chips, data, and talent. It is open to individual companies, business alliances, and special purpose entities, encouraging participation from startups, enterprises, universities, and researchers.
