Southern Mining and Processing Plant Suspends Production Due to Russian Attacks on Commercial Vessels

The Southern Mining and Processing Plant (Southern GOK) has begun a partial suspension of iron ore production and a reduction of production capacities. This decision was made due to attacks by the Russian Federation on civilian commercial vessels in the Black Sea ports of Ukraine, which have paralyzed export logistics. The aggressor's actions have led to a halt in maritime shipping to the Black Sea ports due to shipowners' concerns for the safety of their crews. Several batches of iron ore intended for export have accumulated in the ports and warehouses of Southern GOK. The critical deterioration of the situation in July 2026 was a decisive factor. At least 12 commercial ships heading to Ukrainian ports have been attacked, including vessels carrying products from the Ukrainian mining and metallurgical complex. Maritime shipping in the region is under threat. Despite the suspension of operations, the enterprise maintains its social obligations to employees and partners. During the downtime, personnel will be engaged in regulatory and repair work. The resumption of iron ore production is planned for August 2026, provided that the security situation in the Black Sea stabilizes.
