TRM Labs has stated that the reported losses from deepfake fraud in 2026 will exceed the total amount for 2025 by 263%. This increase highlights security issues related to the manipulation of authorized users in the cryptocurrency space. TRM Labs classifies fraud as the only crime category where the adoption of artificial intelligence has reached a "mature" stage. Since 2022, reports of fraudsters using AI, including deepfakes, chatbots, and automated bait, have increased by approximately 13 times. The most sensitive moment has become the time before authorization, where victims may approve transactions even after being scammed, allowing funds to be sent to attackers. Data from Chainalysis shows that the flow of funds to impersonation scams has increased by over 1400% year-on-year, generating an average of 4.5 times more revenue from visible on-chain operations associated with AI service providers. The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center reported 22,364 complaints involving AI in 2025, with losses amounting to $893.35 million, while complaints involving cryptocurrency reported losses of $113.7 billion. FinCEN has warned financial institutions to be vigilant for signals such as mismatched identity information, suspicious device or location changes, third-party use of webcam tools, resistance to multi-factor authentication, and rapid transactions following account changes.
