TSMC A16 1.6nm Process Expected to Enter Mass Production in Q4 2026
TSMC has completed the development and validation of the A16 (1.6nm) process, which is expected to enter mass production in the fourth quarter of 2026. This process utilizes the Super Power Rail (SPR) technology for back-side power delivery, separating signal routing from power routing, with power located at the back of the wafer to reduce bottlenecks. Compared to the 2nm process, the A16 can improve computational speed by 8% to 10%, reduce energy consumption by 15% to 20%, and increase chip density by 8% to 10%. TSMC views the 1.6nm process as a transitional step towards 1.4nm, with the goal of starting mass production of 1.4nm in 2028.
