UAE and Sweden Arrest Seven in $7.1M Crypto Money Laundering Case
Police in the United Arab Emirates and Sweden arrested seven individuals linked to an international money laundering network involving cryptocurrency transactions connected to organized crime and contract killings. The alleged leader, a Swedish national wanted under an Interpol Red Notice, was apprehended in the UAE, while six others were arrested in Sweden simultaneously. The network reportedly handled approximately 70000000 Swedish krona (7.1 million dollars) over ten months, using cash from criminal activities and cryptocurrencies to transfer funds. Tracing these cryptocurrency transactions revealed financial ties to other criminal activities, including contract killings. Sweden's Minister of Justice has urged police to intensify efforts against criminal cryptocurrency activities, as gang-related violence has resulted in numerous casualties. Brigadier Abdulaziz Al Ahmad from the UAE Ministry of Interior emphasized ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal networks and their financing. The arrests followed extensive investigations and intelligence sharing between the UAE and Sweden.
