Ukrainian Grain Exports by Rail Fell by 72% in August

In August, the volume of grain exports by rail decreased by 72% compared to July. The main decline occurred in the direction of the ports of Greater Odesa, while transshipment through the port of Izmail and western borders increased. The average daily loading volume was 31.3 thousand tons, which is 38% less than last month. As of August 12, 435.8 thousand tons of grain were transported by rail, which is 46.9% less than in July and 52.1% less compared to the same period in 2025. In export shipments, 201.7 thousand tons of grain were transported, which is 72% less than in July and 76% less than last year. The redistribution of export flows is as follows: ports of Greater Odesa - 75.2 thousand tons (a decrease of 88.5% compared to July); port of Izmail - 91.1 thousand tons (an increase of 11.5 times); western border crossings - 126.4 thousand tons (an increase of 80.5%). Ukraine is considering transporting grain cargo by rail through Moldova as a safer export option.
