Altcoins Surpass Bitcoin, Spot Volume Four Times Higher
The spot volume of altcoins has reached nearly four times that of Bitcoin, the highest level since September 2025, according to Glassnode. This volume represents direct token transactions, excluding derivatives and leverage. Bitcoin, which hit an all-time high of $126,195 in October 2025, is currently on pause, trading at $84,019, down 1.69% over seven days. The CoinMarketCap altcoin season index has risen to 64 out of 100, up from 45 the previous week, but remains below the threshold of 75 to be officially considered an "altcoin season." On September 25, 93 of the 100 cryptocurrencies in the CoinDesk 100 index had gained in 24 hours. Chainlink (LINK) has gained over 35% in a month. Glassnode warns that the increased demand for riskier assets could coincide with local peaks of Bitcoin, while analyst Darkfost notes an increase in altcoin deposits on exchange platforms, indicating growing selling pressure.
