Brazil's B3 Plans to Launch Security Token Trading Platform in 2027
Brazil's largest stock exchange, B3, is expected to launch a security tokenization platform in the first half of 2027. The tokenized securities will be interchangeable with traditional stocks and will share pricing and liquidity. The platform was originally scheduled to launch in the second half of 2026 but has now been adjusted to the first half of 2027. Humberto Costa, B3's Director of Product and OTC Strategy, stated that the tokenized securities will be issued based on existing assets and will not primarily be issued on the blockchain. Trading and settlement will still follow the current two-day settlement mechanism. The inclusion of Brazilian Depositary Receipts and exchange-traded funds in this infrastructure is still under evaluation. B3 also plans to launch its own stablecoin and will apply to the Central Bank of Brazil for authorization to operate and custody digital assets. Around-the-clock trading and instant settlement will still require approval from Brazilian regulators or the establishment of a new regulatory framework.
