Goldman Sachs Predicts U.S. Companies to Repurchase $1.7 Trillion in Stock by 2027
Goldman Sachs expects that U.S. companies will return a record $1.7 trillion to shareholders through stock buybacks by 2027, which will help protect market valuations against the dilution effects of equity issuance that is nearing historical highs. The investment bank noted that the supply of publicly traded stocks will significantly increase next year, which typically puts pressure on stock prices. However, Goldman Sachs believes that corporate buybacks, along with strong demand from households and foreign investors, will be sufficient to absorb the new shares.
