GPT-6 Astra Completes Portal for $571
Independent developer cozyblaze integrated GPT-6 Astra into Valve's 3D puzzle game Portal, with the directive to complete the game autonomously without accessing online guides. Astra successfully finished the game in approximately 23 hours and 43 minutes, consuming about 435 million tokens, which translates to approximately $571 based on API pricing. Astra's gameplay differs from that of humans; the game pauses while it thinks, analyzing the current scene, character positions, and perspectives to decide on the next action. Although OpenAI's service experienced capacity issues, the author manually resumed the task and switched to a faster Fast mode, but from the beginning to the end credits, no further hints were provided. This experiment is not a strict benchmark; Portal has been out for nearly 20 years, and there are numerous guides and videos available online. Despite prohibiting Astra from actively accessing online guides, it cannot be ruled out that relevant knowledge was included in its training data. Notably, the AI was able to complete a task that lasted nearly a day, requiring continuous observation and interaction with a 3D environment.
