France Plans to Impose 31.4% Tax on Bitcoin to Stablecoin Exchanges
France is considering imposing a 31.4% capital gains tax on certain Bitcoin to stablecoin transactions. Cryptocurrency assets valued over €800,000 will face an exit tax, and individuals will be required to declare self-custody wallet assets worth no less than €100,000. The related proposal includes allowing cryptocurrency losses to be carried forward for 10 years, but it has not yet become law. The French National Assembly has rejected the revenue portion of the 2027 budget, and the related measures need to be resubmitted for review.
