Rental Costs for Providers Decreased by 100 Times
The rental cost of electric resistors for providers has dropped from 10 UAH to 1 kopeck per month. This decision will allow the connection of 1,043 settlements where home internet is absent. The high cost of access to energy infrastructure had hindered the development of the internet in small villages, as telecom operators were paying 10 UAH per month for each electric resistor. The reduction in rental costs for poles, adopted by the Ministry of Digital Transformation in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy, will enable providers to save thousands of hryvnias in each settlement. The updated rules reduce financial barriers for the telecom business, allowing saved funds to be directed towards purchasing equipment and modernizing networks. The preferential price applies to poles within villages and the transit of cables from neighboring settlements, remaining in effect throughout the martial law period and for one year after its conclusion. The reduction in infrastructure rental costs contributes to expanding coverage in villages, providing residents with stable home internet, access to government and banking services online, as well as opportunities for remote learning and telecommuting. Kyivstar and Ukrtelecom have signed a cooperation agreement based on the Open Access model for the joint use of telecom infrastructure.
