What Is the Market Expecting From Tesla Q3 Earnings Now?

By: WEEX|10/19/2026 07:45:00

TL;DR

  • Earnings Date: Tesla reports Q3 2026 earnings on October 21, with adjusted EPS expected at $0.44–$0.45 and revenue near $27.8 billion.
  • Delivery Beat: Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles, beating expectations by 5.3%, but stronger deliveries may not translate into higher profits.
  • Key Market Focus: Automotive margins, free cash flow, and rising capital expenditures could determine TSLA's post-earnings reaction.

Tesla reports third-quarter 2026 results after the closing bell on Wednesday, October 21, which is 04:00 on October 22 in UTC+8. The delivery figures are already public and came in well ahead of forecasts, yet analysts still expect adjusted earnings per share of about $0.44 to $0.45, roughly 10% lower than a year ago. This report will be judged on margins and cash flow. Last week's flying Roadster reveal will not show up anywhere in the quarter's numbers.

When Is Tesla Q3 2026 Earnings Date and Time?

Tesla releases its Q3 2026 update after the market close on Wednesday, October 21, with a live webcast at 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time, according to Zacks. For readers in Asia, the release lands at about 04:00 and the call at 05:30 on Thursday, October 22 (UTC+8). Thursday's session is the first in which the stock can trade on the results.
The evening is a crowded one. Meta reports at the same time, and Netflix reports the day before, according to CNBC's weekly earnings calendar. Tesla's numbers will be read alongside two other large tech reports within roughly 24 hours.

Tesla Q3 2026 Earnings Estimates: EPS, Revenue and Deliveries

The Zacks consensus puts Tesla's Q3 adjusted EPS at $0.44 on revenue of about $27.8 billion, and that EPS estimate has been cut by 3 cents over the past 30 days. TipRanks shows a slightly higher $0.45. Either figure sits about 10% below the $0.50 Tesla earned in the same quarter last year.
Part of the scorecard is already filled in. Tesla published its production and delivery report on October 2, so the open questions are all on the profit side.
MetricQ3 2026Comparison
Vehicle deliveries (reported)486,532461,974 company-compiled consensus; 497,099 in Q3 2025
Vehicle production (reported)464,391Deliveries exceeded production by 22,141
Energy storage deployed (reported)13.7 GWh13.5 GWh in Q2 2026
Revenue (consensus)~$27.8 billion~$28.1 billion in Q3 2025
Adjusted EPS (consensus)$0.44–$0.45$0.50 in Q3 2025
Delivery and production figures are from CNBC's report on the Q3 numbers.
The last report explains why the EPS line gets so much weight. In Q2, Tesla's revenue of $28.24 billion beat estimates, but adjusted EPS of $0.33 fell well short of the roughly $0.49 analysts had pencilled in, and free cash flow swung to a $1.1 billion deficit, as CNBC reported. The shares fell about 14% the next day, according to CFO Dive. A top-line beat did not protect the stock then, and the market will be checking whether the same gap repeats.

Will Tesla's Q3 Delivery Beat Lead to Stronger Earnings?

No. A delivery beat measures how many cars changed hands. It does not measure how much Tesla made on each one, and that is what earnings per share reflects.
Many traders took the October 2 release as a bullish preview of the earnings report. Tesla beat the delivery consensus by 24,558 vehicles, about 5.3%, and the shares rose 5% that day. But the data shows the beat leaned heavily on cars that were already built:
  • Tesla delivered 22,141 more vehicles than it produced in the quarter. Electrek notes this is the second quarter in a row of inventory drawdown, and that Q2 and Q3 together cleared roughly 50,000 excess vehicles built in Q1. Clearing old stock lifts the delivery count without adding to production, so the beat says less about new demand than the headline suggests. Whether that inventory moved at lower prices will show up in this week’s gross margin figure.
  • Spending is at a record. Tesla's quarterly filing states that it expects capital expenditures "in excess of $25 billion in 2026", roughly three times the $8.5 billion it spent in 2025, according to TechCrunch. Q2 capex alone was $5.79 billion, and operating margin dropped to 1.4%.
  • The EPS consensus fell by 3 cents over the past month, a window that includes the delivery beat. Stronger volume did not translate into higher profit estimates.
Volume is not the open question for this report. The test is whether Tesla can show margins holding up while it spends at the fastest pace in its history.

Will Tesla's New Roadster Impact Q3 Earnings or TSLA Stock?

Not for the Q3 numbers. The Roadster brings in no revenue this quarter and is not scheduled to for at least two years.
Tesla unveiled the redesigned Roadster on October 15 at a SpaceX test facility, where the car used cold-gas thrusters to lift off a ramp, flip in midair and clear a row of other Tesla vehicles. Tesla has not announced a price, production is not expected to begin before 2028, and the flying features are not approved for public roads, NBC News reported. An aviation expert interviewed by CNN described the maneuver as closer to hopping than flying.
Where the Roadster may come up is the earnings call. Capex was the central topic on both of Tesla's earnings calls so far this year, and a new vehicle program with a 2028 start date fits squarely into that conversation. Expect the reveal to shape the questions on Wednesday night more than the answers in the financial statements.

Tesla Stock Forecast: What Could Move TSLA After Q3 Earnings?

With deliveries already known, the reaction is likely to hinge on figures the market has not seen yet:
  • Automotive gross margin. In Q2, automotive gross margin excluding regulatory credits fell to 16.3% from 19.2% in Q1, according to the Q2 earnings call. Whether that number stabilizes, slips further, or recovers will be the first line many investors check.
  • Capex and free cash flow. Management said on the Q2 call that capex would rise further in the second half and that it had secured debt facilities allowing borrowing of up to $30 billion. A change to the full-year capex figure, in either direction, would be significant.
  • Where the money is going. Tesla's filing lists AI compute, data centers, manufacturing expansion and its fleet of AI-enabled vehicles as the main uses of the capex budget. Updates on robotaxi, Cybercab and Optimus timelines will be weighed against that spending.
  • Energy storage. Deployments of 13.7 GWh were slightly above Q2's 13.5 GWh, though Not a Tesla App reported the figure fell short of some forecasts.
The broader backdrop adds pressure. The report arrives after the Nasdaq Composite's worst weekly drop in months, driven by weakness in mega-cap tech, and Meta's results will be released in the same hour. How the market reads Tesla on Thursday may depend partly on what comes out of Menlo Park at the same time.
