If you searched "WEEX safe," "WEEX reputation," or "WEEX suspicious," you have probably found third-party reviews pulling in opposite directions — some flag it, some rate it well, and Japanese-language reviews often add that WEEX is a "smaller exchange with few Japanese users." This page does not try to win that argument with adjectives. It lays out the checkable facts about WEEX — its Protection Fund, its Proof of Reserves, its cold-storage practice, and its scores on neutral aggregators — and it states plainly the one fact that matters most for a Japanese user: WEEX is not registered with Japan's Financial Services Agency (FSA). Every claim below is something you can verify yourself, and we show you where. This is general information, not financial advice, and trading crypto assets carries real risk.

    The short answer

WEEX is a global crypto-asset (cryptocurrency) exchange that has operated since 2018, carries a Trust Score of 8/10 on CoinGecko, trades roughly US$1.3–1.5 billion a day, and publishes a 1,000 BTC Protection Fund and an ongoing Proof of Reserves page you can independently check. Those are structural facts, not a promise that your money is safe. At the same time, and just as importantly: WEEX is not on the FSA's register of crypto-asset exchange operators in Japan. That is the honest trade-off a Japanese user is weighing, and the rest of this page gives you the facts on both sides — plus the two links you need to check WEEX (and any exchange) for yourself: CoinGecko for the neutral scores, and search.fsa.go.jp for registration.

Scale and neutral scores, at a glance

These figures come from neutral aggregators, not from WEEX's marketing. They describe how large and liquid the venue is — not whether it is right for you.

WEEX also reports over 5 million registered users (its own figure, relayed on CoinMarketCap). Treat self-reported user counts as context, not audited fact.

What WEEX states about protecting funds

Trust on an exchange comes down to structure: what protects your balance, and whether you can check it. WEEX makes three specific, checkable claims.

A 1,000 BTC Protection Fund with a public address

On its Protection Fund page, WEEX states it has "built a 1,000 BTC reserve to protect our users and keep our platform secure," and that "our wallet addresses are public." The fund's stated purpose is to cover certain losses: in WEEX's words, "if a loss occurs through no fault of the user, WEEX is committed to covering it." Read the limits, too — WEEX states the fund does not cover trading losses, fraud, or transactions a user was tricked into authorizing, and that a claim must be raised with support within 30 days. In other words, it is a defined reserve with defined exclusions, not a blanket guarantee. That distinction is the honest way to read any protection fund.

Proof of Reserves you can verify

WEEX publishes a Proof of Reserves (PoR) page. It defines the reserve ratio as "platform reserve ÷ user holdings," where "a reserve ratio of ≥ 100% means the exchange has sufficient funds to cover all user holdings," and it shows a dated snapshot (most recently June 30, 2026). The point of PoR is not that WEEX asserts a number — it is that the data is meant to be checked independently: WEEX states the reserves are "verified on" CoinMarketCap and GitHub. The strongest thing we can honestly say is not "trust the ratio" but "you do not have to take WEEX's word for it — open the PoR page and the CoinMarketCap and GitHub verification and read it yourself." (One caveat worth knowing when you do: a meaningful share of the reported reserve is WXT, WEEX's own exchange token, so weigh the composition, not just a headline figure.)

    Cold storage and account protection

WEEX states that "95%+ of assets" are held in "multi-signature cold storage," alongside "multi-layer account protection systems." This is WEEX's own statement (from its official channel), corroborated in general terms by third-party reviews that describe cold storage and multi-signature/threshold-signature custody — but it is not an independent audit, so read it as a stated practice, not a certified one. Standard user-side protections (two-factor authentication, withdrawal-address controls) are available and worth enabling regardless of the platform.

The regulatory fact that matters most: WEEX is not FSA-registered

Here is the plain statement no WEEX marketing page will lead with, and the reason this page is more useful than a promotional one. Japan requires crypto-asset exchange operators that serve residents to be registered with the Financial Services Agency (FSA) under the Payment Services Act. WEEX does not appear on that register.

What that means, stated neutrally — the same way it would be true of any unregistered offshore venue — is that the domestic protections that come with FSA registration are not assured: mandated segregation of customer assets, a supervised complaint-and-dispute route, and FSA oversight. That is a factual trade-off, not a verdict. It does not by itself make WEEX "a scam"; it means WEEX sits outside the Japanese regulatory perimeter, and you are choosing a venue on facts you can check rather than on a domestic license.

And you should check, for WEEX and for every exchange you consider. The FSA publishes a searchable register of licensed operators at search.fsa.go.jp, and a public warning list of operators conducting crypto-asset exchange business without registration at fsa.go.jp/ordinary/chuui/highrisk.html. Those two official pages let you replace any review's opinion — including this page's — with a fact.

    Common worries, answered with facts

"WEEX seems suspicious / 怪しい — is it a scam?"

"Suspicious" is usually a reaction to unfamiliarity, so replace the feeling with checks. The facts a skeptic can confirm in a few minutes: an 8/10 CoinGecko Trust Score, roughly US$1.3–1.5B in daily volume across two aggregators, a 1,000 BTC Protection Fund with a public wallet address, an independently checkable Proof of Reserves page, and a company (WEEX GLOBAL LTD.) operating since 2018 with a listed app carrying over a million downloads. None of that is a guarantee — but it is the opposite of an anonymous, un-checkable operation. The genuinely important caveat is not secrecy; it is the regulatory one above: WEEX is not FSA-registered, and a smaller Japanese user base is consistent with its being an offshore, non-domestic venue. That is a real consideration to weigh — not a hidden one.

    "I can't withdraw from WEEX / 出金できない"

A withdrawal that will not go through is almost always a resolvable step rather than a sign your funds are gone. The factual rules: WEEX applies withdrawal limits that depend on your verification level — an unverified account has lower limits — and WEEX states it "reserves the right to require KYC verification as needed" under regional law. Withdrawals can also be paused for a risk-control or anti-money-laundering review, and every on-chain withdrawal carries a network fee and a minimum amount. So the usual reasons a withdrawal is stuck are: identity verification not completed (which raises your limit), a pending security review, an amount below the network minimum, or a wrong network/address — each of which has a fix. Confirm the current limits and fees inside the app before assuming a problem, and use only WEEX's official verification channels to avoid phishing sites that imitate the withdrawal page.

    Risk disclosure

Crypto assets are volatile and can lose value quickly; you can lose money. WEEX offers leveraged (margin/futures) products, and leverage magnifies losses as well as gains — a leveraged position can be liquidated, and you can lose more than a spot holding would. An exchange being large, scored well, or holding a protection fund does not remove market risk, and none of the facts on this page are a promise of profit or safety. Trade only what you can afford to lose, understand a product before using it, and remember that using an unregistered offshore venue places you outside Japan's domestic customer-protection framework.

How to verify everything on this page yourself

Do not take this page's word for any of it. Here is the full checklist, all on neutral or official surfaces:

    • Neutral score and volume — CoinGecko's WEEX exchange profile (Trust Score, 24h volume, coins/pairs, year established).
    • Reserves — WEEX's Proof of Reserves page (weex.com/proof-of-reserves) and its "verified on" links to CoinMarketCap and GitHub; read the composition, not just a headline.
    • Protection fund — WEEX's Protection Fund page (weex.com/protectfund), including the coverage exclusions and the 30-day claim rule.
    • Registration — the FSA register at search.fsa.go.jp and the unregistered-operator warning list at fsa.go.jp/ordinary/chuui/highrisk.html. Check WEEX, and check any exchange you compare it to, the same way.
